Coming to London: cycle paths fully separated from other traffic (vote!)

Short version: TFL is proposing cycle paths that are fully separated from other traffic. You can vote for the proposals here (East-West route) and here (North-South route) until the end of October 2014, more information here (E-W) and here (N-S). Let’s make London the new Amsterdam!

Plans for Blackfriars Road

Plans for Blackfriars Road

This morning in my inbox:

I am writing to let you know that Transport for London, in partnership with the boroughs of Southwark, Camden, Islington and the City of London, would like your views on proposals for a new Cycle Superhighway between Elephant & Castle and King’s Cross.

Yes please! TFL is asking for comments on the plans in a public consultation. More information on the plans can be found here (East-West route) and here (North-South route), you can leave comments here (E-W) and here (N-S).

Here’s an animate image of the before and after situation on Blackfriars Road:

TFL’s plans must be inspired by the way the Dutch have incorporated cycling in their cities, something I’ve missed ever since moving to the UK. Although late, I think they’re on the right track (ba-dum-tss) and hope these plans will be extended further West (I’m looking at you, Hammersmith & Fulham, and Kensington & Chelsea!)
